Placements24 is seeking a Junior Civil Engineer to join a site-based team in Soweto. This role targets recent graduates or early-career engineers to supervise and execute civil works on infrastructure projects.

You will work with site managers and senior engineers, gaining practical experience in construction activities, quality control, and site safety while developing on-site skills for professional registration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• 0–3 years of civil engineering experience preferred, with on-site exposure.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specs.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills essential.

Responsabilités

• Assist in supervising daily on-site construction activities.
• Support site managers with labour, plant and material coordination.
• Monitor progress against schedule and report deviations.
• Ensure works follow design drawings and specifications.
• Conduct quality checks and support QA/QC plans.
• Promote and follow site safety regulations and inspections.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the supervision of daily construction activities on site.
• Support site managers in coordinating labour, plant, and materials.
• Monitor progress against the construction schedule and report any deviations.
• Ensure that work is carried out in accordance with design drawings and specifications.
• Conduct quality control checks and assist in the implementation of quality management plans.
• Adhere to and promote site safety regulations and assist in safety inspections.
• Assist with the measurement of work done and the preparation of interim payment certificates.
• Maintain site records, including daily diaries, progress reports, and incident logs.
• Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers as directed by site management.
• Identify and report any site issues or potential problems to senior engineers promptly.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• 0-3 years of experience in civil engineering, preferably with exposure to site works.
• A strong understanding of fundamental civil engineering principles and construction methods.
• Knowledge of basic site safety regulations and procedures.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications like MS Office.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to work on-site in Soweto and potentially travel to other sites.
