Placements24 is seeking a Junior Chemical Engineer for our client in East London, Eastern Cape. This entry-level role offers hands-on experience in process improvement and support within a chemical plant, under guidance from senior engineers.

You will assist with data collection, analysis, SOP development, safety inspections, and monitoring performance, gaining practical skills to contribute to continuous improvement and future engineering talent development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
• 0-2 years of experience in chemical engineering, internships or co-op placements are highly valued.
• Solid understanding of fundamental chemical engineering principles (thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Eagerness to learn and develop practical engineering skills.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Commitment to workplace safety and environmental awareness.
• Ability to work effectively on-site in East London.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior engineers in collecting and analyzing process data to identify areas for improvement.
• Support troubleshooting efforts for operational issues, gathering relevant information.
• Help in the development and documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Participate in safety inspections and hazard identification activities.
• Assist with monitoring plant performance against key metrics.
• Contribute to process improvement projects by conducting literature reviews and basic calculations.
• Prepare simple technical reports and presentations under supervision.
• Learn and apply chemical engineering principles to practical plant operations.
• Support the implementation of minor process modifications and their documentation.
