Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ Head Office in Midrand has an opportunity available for a Junior Buyer to join the procurement team. The role focuses on buying, selecting, and stock managing for the allocated category. You will be responsible for the selection and purchasing of merchandise at the best possible negotiated prices from trusted and reliable vendors, and implementing strategies to improve profitability of various FMCG departments.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric with Mathematics and Accounting
- Minimum of 3 years Category Buying experience
- Degree or Diploma in Finance/Retail Management or similar qualification
- SAP BI, Qlikview experience
- Computer skills – Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Job Responsibilities
Stock Management
- Analyze consumer buying patterns to predict future trends and select profitable product ranges.
- Buy merchandise according to Dis-Chem needs.
- Review sales performance indicators and competitor activities regularly.
- Manage stock levels to meet business demand.
- Liaise with in-store management to ensure supply meets demand.
- Research product ranges before deciding on merchandise.
- Adhere to financial objectives and ensure the category's profitability.
- Source private label opportunities and procure merchandise aligned with category strategy.
Marketing
- Formulate marketing plans aligned with company strategy.
- Purchase appropriate stock for marketing campaigns.
- Analyze target audiences for effective marketing offers.
- Negotiate with suppliers for discounts and display materials.
- Manage campaign budgets and schedules.
- Monitor and measure campaign effectiveness.
- Develop pricing and promotion strategies.
- Negotiate prices and contracts with suppliers.
- Attend trade fairs for product and supplier sourcing.
Financial Management
- Develop annual category financial strategies.
- Monitor inventory, expenditures, and deliveries.
- Increase profit margins as per business requirements.
Administration & Reporting
- Update sales forecasts and reports.
- Use customer feedback to assess product quality.
- Report sales, trends, and finances regularly.
- Place orders through relevant systems.
Stakeholder Relations
- Collaborate with merchandising, marketing, and other departments.
- Present new products and collections to management.
- Build and maintain supplier relationships.
- Negotiate prices and review contracts.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure project completion.
