Job description

The Registered Nurse will render and promote cost effective, safe quality patient care in accordance with hospital standards and policies and will further be responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or a group of patients, for assessing, planning, executing and supervising the implementation of care to meet patient needs.

Detailed description

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  1. Practice patient care according to the Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility for these activities.
  2. Contribute to the holistic care of patients.
  3. Attend handover of report at shift commencement.
  4. Recognize life-threatening situations.
  5. Communicate effectively with patients regarding their care.
  6. Promote patients' health and wellbeing.
  7. Give a detailed handover to the ward's sister.
  8. Audit health records to ensure compliance.
  9. Ensure all stock is well controlled and managed, charged and credited appropriately.
  10. Promote and maintain good public relations with patients, relatives, and visitors.

Job requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must be in possession of:

  1. Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse or Equivalent NQF 7 qualification.
  2. Have a matric qualification.
  3. Relevant experience in Medical Unit.
  4. Compulsory BLS.
  5. Advanced Computer Literacy.
  6. Capacity to implement and maintain standards of health practice required from all accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation.
