Job description

Located in Bryanston, our client is in search of a Junior Accountant. This role, reporting directly to the Financial Manager, involves close collaboration with the Financial Accountant, Accounts Payable Administrator, Customer Services Department, and other internal teams. As a key member of the Finance department, you will play a crucial role in maintaining financial order and transparency. Your responsibilities will include managing daily transactions, handling Accounts Receivable Debit and Credit notes, processing journal entries, preparing balance sheet reconciliations, updating pricing, and managing order requisitions and purchase orders. With a strong emphasis on accuracy and detail, you will support financial analysis, aiding in strategic decision-making and contributing to the company's growth and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Accounts Receivable Debit / Credit Notes: Process invoices / debit / credit notes weekly as required by the Customer Services Department and at month-end as required by the Finance team. Keep records of financial transactions for the Company.
  • Processing Journal Entries Before and at Month-End: Perform month-end analysis of accounts and process adjusting entries to reconcile accounts.
  • Prepare Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Prepare balance sheet reconciliations accurately at month-end and resolve all differences.
  • Updating Pricing: Capture pricing updates accurately in the front-end system monthly, and as required by the Marketing department.
  • Processing Accounts Payable Order Requisitions and Purchase Orders: Capture order requisitions and purchase orders at month-end and upon request.
  • Accounts Receivable Receipting: Ensure debtors' payments are receipted accurately and timely.
  • Weekly and Monthly Reporting: Analyse and share weekly sales reports. Reconcile month-end sales and cost of sales reports to the GL and share them. Compile reports to show statistics such as cash receipts and expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, profit and loss, and other items pertinent to the operation of the business.
  • Audit and Ad-Hoc Requests: Fulfil all audit and ad-hoc requests accurately and timely.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • BCOM Accounting degree or similar.
  • 3+ years of experience as an Accountant or in a similar role.
  • Understanding of accounting best practices.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of accounting techniques and procedures.
  • Close attention to detail is required to produce work with a high level of accuracy.
  • Good analytical, numerical, and presentational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of proficiency in Excel is mandatory.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to problem-solve and is self-driven and motivated.
