What is the role about?

We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our finance team. In this role, you’ll support the day-to-day accounts payable functions and help maintain accurate financial records. You’ll gain exposure to key finance processes including invoice processing, reconciliations, and VAT preparation—making it an ideal opportunity to grow your career in accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing supplier invoices and credit notes in Sage, Xero or QuickBooks

  • Matching purchase orders, delivery notes, and invoices

  • Maintaining the fixed assets register

  • Preparing VAT returns

  • Performing bank reconciliations

  • Assisting with weekly payment runs

  • Process expenses and ensure rechargeable expenses are charged to clients

  • Responding to vendor queries and resolving invoice discrepancies

  • Supporting month-end and year-end close processes

  • Maintaining accurate financial records and updating accounting systems

  • Assisting with internal and external audits

  • Providing general admin support and ensuring financial data confidentiality

As a member of the VR team, you will have the flexibility to manage your own day, as long as you meet your set objectives and client demands. Often your team will be a mix of on-site and remote based members who will connect using IM, video calls and an online ticketing system. Good communication skills and time management is essential for this role.


What skills are we looking for?

Our roles are remotely based (even pre-Covid), meaning you will be working from your home office, connecting with your client and team on a daily basis.

To be successful in this role, you will need to communicate clearly and professionally (in English) with suppliers, internal teams, and finance colleagues. You should be able to explain financial information in simple, understandable terms and be proactive in resolving queries or discrepancies. Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a willingness to contribute to continuous improvement are essential. You should also be comfortable using email and video calls to stay connected with your team and ensure smooth collaboration.

Must have Skills Required

  • Good understanding of accounting principles and accounts payable processes

  • Proficiency in MS Excel and financial systems (Sage, Xero, or QuickBooks)

  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills

  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Other Qualifications/Skills that will be beneficial but not mandatory

  • A qualification in accounting, finance, or a related field

  • Knowledge of VAT rules and fixed asset accounting

  • Knowledge of ERP systems (Xero, Exact advantageous)

  • Experience working in a shared service or large corporate finance environment

As this is a remote role,you can be based anywhere in South Africaso long as you are authorised to work without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
