Job description

Job title: Judges Secretary - Free State

Job Location: Free State, Bloemfontein         Deadline: July 18, 2025

REQUIREMENTS :

  • Grade 12 with a minimum of one-year secretarial experience. A valid driver’s license.
  • An LLB degree or at least 20 modules completed towards an LLB, BA Law, or BCom Law degree (results must accompany the application) will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in a legal/court secretarial environment is advantageous. Shortlisted candidates will be required to pass a typing test.

DUTIES :

  • Provide secretarial and administrative support to the judge, including typing draft memoranda, decisions, opinions, or judgments; managing correspondence, judgments, and orders (including Dictaphone typing); and arranging appointments and official visits.
  • Make travel and accommodation arrangements. Manage and safeguard case files, updating them with the judge’s orders.
  • Update files and documents, provide copies to the registrar, and perform digital recording of court proceedings for urgent cases after hours, ensuring the recordings' integrity.
  • Accompany the judge to court. Manage the judge’s vehicle, logbook, and driving schedule. Prepare reports, expense records, financial disclosures, and case management documents as needed.
  • Arrange refreshments for the judge and visitors, and attend to their needs. Manage the judge’s library and update documentation. Conduct legal research as directed and adhere to departmental policies and procedures.
