REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 certificate; a minimum of 20 modules completed towards an LLB, BA, or Bachelor of Law Degree.
  • At least two (2) years of secretarial experience; a valid driver’s license; an LLB or Bachelor of Law Degree is an advantage. Results must accompany the application. Shortlisted candidates will be required to pass a typing test.

DUTIES:

  • Provide general secretarial and administrative support to the Judge, including typing draft memoranda, decisions, opinions, or judgments.
  • Manage and type correspondence, judgments, and court orders, including Dictaphone typing.
  • Arrange and diarize appointments, meetings, official visits, and make travel and accommodation arrangements.
  • Safeguard case files, endorse files with Judge’s orders, update documents, and provide copies to the Registrar.
  • Perform digital recording of court proceedings for urgent cases, especially after hours or on circuit courts, ensuring the integrity of recordings.
  • Store, organize, and file court records securely.
  • Assist the Judge during court sessions.
  • Compile daily court statistics.
  • Manage the Judge’s vehicle, logbook, and driving schedule.
  • Prepare reports, expense statements, legal hours, and case management data.
  • Arrange refreshments and attend to visitors' needs.
  • Manage the Judge’s library and update legal documentation.
  • Perform legal research as directed, adhering to departmental policies and procedures.
