Job summary

Job Title: Judge’s Secretary

Location: Western Cape, Cape Town

Deadline: August 15, 2025

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 with a minimum of two (2) years of secretarial experience. Experience in a legal/court environment will be an advantage.
  • An LLB Degree, Bachelor of Law Degree, or a minimum of 20 modules completed towards an LLB, BA, or Bachelor of Law Degree will be an advantage.
  • A valid driver’s license will be advantageous.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be required to pass a typing test.

Duties:

  • Provide general legal secretarial and administrative duties to the Judge, including typing or formatting draft memorandums, directions, opinions, and letters.
  • Manage and type correspondence, judgments, and orders for the Judge, including Dictaphone typing.
  • Arrange and diarize appointments, meetings, official visits, and make travel and accommodation arrangements.
  • Store, safeguard, and update case files with relevant documents and postponements/orders.
  • Update exhibit and witness lists in criminal matters.
  • Perform digital recordings of court proceedings for urgent cases and ensure the integrity of recordings.
  • Accompany the Judge to court, record times, and compile court statistics daily.
  • Manage the Judge’s vehicle, including logbook and servicing.
  • Prepare reports, expense statements, legal hours, and case management documents.
  • Arrange refreshments and attend to visitors’ needs.
  • Manage the Judge’s library and update publications.
  • Assist with case-related requests and administrative management tasks.
