MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Data Centre Management
- Responsible for equipment maintenance tasks such as managing and installing custom upgrades for clients, replacing cables, components, and accessories.
- Conduct working methods to ensure zero capacity incidents and maintain agreed PUE levels.
- Ensure that records, drawings, and schematics of the data centre environment are maintained.
- Evaluate best practices for design and maintenance.
- Supervise a team of technicians to ensure smooth operation of the facility.
- Manage working methods to ensure all SLA and MSA’s are achieved.
- Ensure planned and corrective maintenance is carried out according to standards and schedules.
- Share knowledge and best practices across all Data Centres by building relationships with other DC Managers and peers.
- Improve current processes and introduce automation for simplification.
- Manage escalated support cases and lead technical resources or vendors for resolution.
- Manage data centre infrastructure for high availability and cost-effectiveness, supporting 99.999% electrical uptime and 99.99% mechanical uptime, including capacity management.
- Oversee data centre cabling infrastructure supporting 99.99% uptime.
- Participate actively in new data centre builds or expansions.
- Monitor and alert on critical components.
- Ensure comprehensive root cause analysis for incidents/outages.
- Plan white space capacity.
- Respond quickly to critical situations.
- Manage third-party vendors and service delivery.
- Involve actively in network, physical, and cyber security matters.
Compliance, Audit & Risk :
- Maintain compliance with industry best practices.
- Enforce and improve data centre best practices and standards.
- Ensure data centre cleaning standards are upheld.
- Implement company and departmental policies, processes, and work instructions.
- Identify and mitigate risks.
- Participate actively in audits.
- Adhere strictly to processes.
- Meet inter-departmental OLA’s.
Information Security :
- Identify and manage risks related to information assets and systems, including confidentiality, availability, and integrity.
Skills Requirement : Finance
- Forecast future spend.
- Monitor and manage budgets.
- Prepare budget reports.
Leadership
- Make independent decisions and follow directions when provided.
- Manage people effectively.
- Involve actively in onboarding staff.
- Guide and develop staff with HR support.
- Define personal development plans and KPIs for reports.
- Build relationships with other business units.
- Support BEE targets during onboarding.
- Communicate effectively across platforms.
- Interact professionally with clients, colleagues, and staff at all levels.
- Mentor staff.
Administrative duties
- Schedule employee shifts and rosters.
- Ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
- Handle change and incident management.
- Ensure safety and health responsibilities are met.
- Report accurately and timely.
- Organize and prioritize effectively; manage technical projects.
Client satisfaction
- Provide excellent customer service to ensure client satisfaction.
- Support clients by managing relations, inquiries, and coordination.
- Meet client survey and reporting targets.
- Understand client urgency and handle incidents sensitively.
General :
- Support after-hours support as needed.
- Communicate clearly and professionally.
- Possess strong technical skills.
- Proactively solve problems.
Qualifications and Experience :
- Electrical and/or mechanical qualification preferred.
- Cabling qualification preferred.
- Minimum 5 years in data centre environments.
- 5 years managing teams, including performance reviews, hiring, disciplinary actions, and financial management.
- Extensive knowledge of critical infrastructure systems.
- Experience with Data Centre KPIs.
