Job description

The Junior Electronic Hardware Technician will design, develop, and program test benches used for low level testing of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) and will design, develop and program test benches used for testing of individual LRU PCBs after production. This role requires a technical knowledge in electronic circuits, embedded firmware as well as the ability to follow the Test bench development process.


Minimum Requirements:
  1. BTech or Advanced Diploma NQF Level 8 in Electronic Engineering. New entrants are welcome to apply if they have the above qualification.
  2. Must have the ability to learn to:
    1. Design, simulate, program and complete test bench PCB design and routing used for testing Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) according to specifications provided;
    2. Follow the defined test bench design processes and document design according to hardware design plan;
    3. Take part in peer reviews of test benches;
    4. Test and validate LRUs, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations (DO-160, MIL-STD-704);
    5. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to test bench design and performance.
  3. Software proficiency preferred: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, LTspice and an Electronic CAD (Altium or similar).
  4. Have sound knowledge of: Schematic design, PCB design, simulation of circuits, analysis of circuits and basic programming knowledge.
  5. Non-negotiable skills needed upon application:
    1. Schematic design, PCB design, simulation of circuits and analysis of circuits;
    2. Embedded firmware programming skills (C preferred);
    3. General programming skills in Python and or other scripting languages.
  6. Extra advantageous skills (not essential):
    1. Knowledge of National Instruments LabVIEW;
    2. Knowledge of QT.
  7. RSA Citizen.
  8. No criminal record.
  9. Already reside in the Cape Town region, or be willing to relocate to Cape Town on own cost.
