Watershed Consulting is seeking a hands-on Java Developer for Mobile Engineering (React Native) to build and maintain enterprise-grade mobile apps for iOS and Android. This six-month engagement requires in-office work in Sandton, with responsibilities spanning from translating requirements into high-quality solutions to supporting CI/CD and production readiness.

The role demands strong proficiency in React Native, Expo, TypeScript, and modern mobile patterns, plus experience with Azure DevOps,

Qualifications

• Proven experience building and maintaining enterprise iOS and Android applications using React Native and Expo.
• Strong TypeScript and JavaScript fundamentals with modern React patterns.
• Practical experience with Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines, secure secrets management, automated builds and release approvals.
• Experience with app signing and distribution via App Store Connect, TestFlight and Google Play Console.
• Solid knowledge of mobile security, performance optimization, accessibility and production support practices.
• Familiarity with observability and error/analytics tooling such as Dynatrace, Sentry or Splunk.
• Experience with automated testing approaches and TDD/BDD workflows.
• Excellent communication, collaboration and delivery discipline within Agile teams.
• All background and compliance checks must be completed and clear before start.

Responsabilités

• Develop and maintain cross-platform mobile applications using React Native, Expo and TypeScript.
• Implement polished UI from Figma, wireframes, and design systems with attention to accessibility and performance.
• Integrate mobile apps with enterprise RESTful APIs, authentication flows and secure storage mechanisms.
• Support and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps (YAML), including automated builds, testing, signing and release approvals.
• Manage monorepo layouts, shared packages and mobile workspace tooling to ensure reliable developer workflows.
• Implement automated testing, TDD/BDD practices and mobile quality gates to maintain high release quality.
• Use observability and error reporting tools (Dynatrace, Sentry, Splunk) to monitor and troubleshoot production issues.
• Manage app signing, distribution and release processes via App Store Connect, TestFlight, Google Play Console and internal distribution channels.
• Participate in code reviews, maintain Git workflows, and work within Agile/Scrum delivery teams.
• Employ AI-assisted development tools responsibly to increase productivity while maintaining code quality and engineering judgement.

Job Title

Java Developer – Mobile Engineering (React Native)

Description

We are seeking a hands-on mobile engineer to build, maintain, secure, and support enterprise-grade mobile applications for iOS and Android using React Native, Expo and TypeScript. This role will translate business and design requirements into high-quality technical solutions, integrate with enterprise services, and support CI/CD and release processes. Strong engineering discipline across code quality, testing, security, performance, accessibility, and production support is essential.

Location: Sandton, JHB. Work from office mandatory — 8 hours in office per day. Duration: 6 months with possibility of renewal. All checks must be clear prior to engagement.
