Job description

The IT Technician is responsible for maintaining the smooth running of all the IT systems on board and driving continuous improvements to the IT environment.

This role includes being the technology go-to person for the vessel and the person delegated by the head office to maintain a system vital to the success of the company.

This position is onshore and offshore.

Requirements:

  • Certificate / Diploma / Degree in Information Technology
  • Vendor certifications in Information Technology would be advantageous
  • 3 years' experience in Networking
  • 2 years' experience with MS Windows / Office Suite / Server
  • 2 years' experience with CCTV and Access Control Systems
  • 2 years' experience in General firewalling

Responsibilities:

  1. SHES (SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT, SECURITY)
  2. Comply with Group Safety and Security policies.
  3. Ensure IT compliance with Permits to Work when necessary.
  4. Manage the day-to-day onboard network requirements.
  5. Manage the issuing of access tokens for crew Wi-Fi connectivity with the OTM.
  6. Maintain the Security IT system in conjunction with the SSO and Group Security Policies.
  7. Ensure user productivity software availability.
  8. Maintain the vessel VSAT system in conjunction with the vendor.
  9. Ensure high IT-systems availability in excess of 85%.
  10. Ensure lifecycle of workstations is maintained.
  11. Maintain high levels of user-system satisfaction.
  12. Maintain software licensing in conjunction with the Head Office.
  13. Maintain software hygiene of workstations.
  14. Drive change to improve.
  15. Ensure computer systems are fit for purpose in line with ITIL lifecycles.
  16. Ensure that systems use verified, legitimate software.
  17. Maintain documentation and technical diagrams.
  18. Ability to identify opportunities for technology improvements.
  19. Maintain the digital security of the vessel.

Reporting:

  1. Manages IT Daily.
  2. Generates breakdown reports with suggested remedial actions.
  3. Manage IT inventory and audit reports.
  4. Manage ticket logging and closing.

Sea Going Personnel:

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills in English.
  • Valid Passport.
  • Valid Seafarers Medical certificate (RSA / Namibia).
  • Valid Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) (RSA / Namibia).
  • Seamans Record Book (RSA / Namibia).
  • STCV (Standard of Training, Certification & Watchkeeping for Seafarer), Course: MFA (Medical First Aid), FF (Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting), PST (Personal Survival Techniques), PSSR (Personal Safety & Social Responsibility), HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training), CSA (Competence in Security Awareness).
