Job description

IT Security Technician

We currently have an opportunity for an IT Security Technician.

This position requires a variety of specialised skills and patience.

The security technician works from a single location but supports multiple, dynamic environments.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, empathy, and effective expectation management are essential.

This is a fast-paced role, often assessed by the individual's ability to work within a growing, skilled team.

A successful security technician should be familiar with the Microsoft Security stack and have knowledge of third-party security protocols and applications.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. General Security Checks: Daily monitoring and remediation using Microsoft Defender, analyzing McAfee reports, monitoring traffic via Forticloud, reviewing IPS reports, checking device compliance with Microsoft Intune, and vulnerability assessments with Rapid7.
  2. Patching and Server Administration: Daily vulnerability checks, applying patches, server reboots, and weekly server maintenance including rebooting LMS servers on Sundays.
  3. Patch Management: Monthly auto-patching with manual approval, and weekly maintenance of the N-Able server to ensure connectivity and functionality.
  4. Identity and Access Management: Creating and managing VPN and domain accounts, maintaining access records, and assisting users with access issues.
  5. Documentation: Developing security policies, SOPs, and reporting on CIS 18 Controls.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Patience and ability to handle end-user frustrations.
  • Ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines, and utilize knowledge resources.
  • Knowledge of Information Security Governance, Vulnerability and Risk Management, and Security Design.
  • Understanding of Anti-Virus and Intrusion Detection Systems.
