FNB South Africa is seeking an experienced Firewall Security Specialist to join the Infrastructure and Cybersecurity team. You will be responsible for admin, maintenance, monitoring, and optimization of enterprise firewall and network security platforms to safeguard banking systems.

The role demands strong knowledge of network security technologies, change management, threat mitigation, and operational support within a large-scale enterprise.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in IT, network engineering, or cyber security.
• 3–5+ years hands-on firewall administration.
• Experience with enterprise security platforms in a large environment.
• Experience handling security change requests and major incidents.
• Industry certifications such as CCNA/CCNP Security or Cisco Secure Firewall are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support enterprise firewall environments.
• Implement security policies, ACLs, NAT, VPNs, and zones.
• Perform firewall upgrades and patching.
• Monitor firewall performance and security events.
• Investigate firewall incidents and outages.
• Review and implement firewall rule requests per standards.
• Conduct health checks and capacity planning.
• Collaborate with Cyber Security, Networking, Risk, and Apps teams.
• Participate in after-hours maintenance windows.
• Maintain operational docs and network diagrams.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Firewall Security Specialist to join our Infrastructure and Cybersecurity team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, monitoring, and optimization of enterprise firewall and network security platforms, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of critical banking systems and services.

The role requires a strong understanding of network security technologies, change management processes, threat mitigation, and operational support within a large-scale enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and support enterprise firewall environments, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Implement and manage security policies, access control lists (ACLs), NAT, VPNs, and security zones.
• Perform firewall software upgrades, patching, and vulnerability remediation.
• Monitor firewall performance, availability, and security events.
• Investigate and resolve firewall-related incidents, outages, and performance issues.
• Review and implement approved firewall rule requests in accordance with security standards.
• Conduct firewall health checks, capacity planning, and lifecycle management.
• Collaborate with Cyber Security, Network Engineering, Risk, and Application teams during project implementations.
• Participate in after-hours maintenance windows and change implementations.
• Ensure compliance with organizational security standards, audit requirements, and regulatory obligations.
• Maintain accurate operational documentation, network diagrams, and configuration records.

We Can Be a Match If You Have

• Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Network Engineering, Cyber Security, or related field.
• Industry certifications such as:
  • Cisco CCNA Security / CCNP Security
  • Cisco Secure Firewall Certification
  • ITIL Foundation (advantageous)
  • 3–5+ years of hands‑on firewall administration experience.
  • Experience supporting enterprise security platforms within a large corporate environment.
  • Experience implementing security change requests and managing major incidents.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols and security architectures.
