Job summary

FirstRand Group’s First National Bank (FNB) is seeking an experienced Firewall Security Specialist to join the Infrastructure and Cybersecurity team. You will administer, monitor, and optimize enterprise firewall platforms to protect critical banking systems and services.

The role requires hands-on firewall administration, strong knowledge of network security technologies, and collaboration with cross-functional teams on project implementations. The position may require after-hours work.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in IT, Network Eng, Cyber Security, or related field.
• 3–5+ years of hands-on firewall administration experience.
• Experience supporting enterprise security platforms in a large corporate environment.
• Experience implementing security change requests and managing major incidents.
• Strong understanding of network protocols and security architectures.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support enterprise firewall environments, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Implement and manage security policies, ACLs, NAT, VPNs, and security zones.
• Perform firewall software upgrades, patching, and vulnerability remediation.
• Monitor firewall performance, availability, and security events.
• Investigate and resolve firewall-related incidents, outages, and performance issues.
• Review and implement approved firewall rule requests per security standards.
• Conduct firewall health checks, capacity planning, and lifecycle management.
• Collaborate with Cyber Security, Network Engineering, Risk, and Application teams during projects.
• Participate in after-hours maintenance windows and change implementations.
• Ensure compliance with security standards, audit requirements, and regulatory obligations.
• Maintain accurate operational documentation and diagrams.
