IT Infrastructure Specialist - Cape Town

Description

For more than 20 years, Globeleq has been a long-term investor, developer, owner, and operator of diversified power projects in Africa. The company is one of the largest Independent Power Producers, with nearly MW of generation capacity across 16 power plants in 7 countries, MW of new projects under construction, and >2,MW in development. Globeleq is 70% owned by British International Investment and 30% by Norfund, supporting the development of the African power sector. The company employs various generation technologies, including gas, wind, solar PV, battery energy storage (BESS), and geothermal. It is also exploring opportunities in energy transition projects such as desalination, green hydrogen, and ammonia.

Globeleq is hiring an IT Specialist to lead the development and maintenance of the corporate infrastructure supporting the GSAMS team managing power plants across South Africa and Africa. The role involves managing server and software infrastructure, escalated desktop support, and supporting remote sites, requiring occasional travel within South Africa and internationally to other power plants in Africa. The position is based at our Cape Town office.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage business-critical infrastructure including server, backup, Active Directory, Microsoft, SharePoint, etc.
  2. Design and install new systems for infrastructure updates or new site implementations.
  3. Maintain existing infrastructure to ensure high availability and security.
  4. Develop and support ticket management, desktop, server monitoring, and infrastructure monitoring systems.
  5. Perform routine backups, configuration management, and implement security policies.
  6. Develop backup policies and ensure timely application of security patches.
  7. Enforce IT policies, document procedures, and maintain asset inventory.
  8. Complete capital projects and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  9. Support infrastructure projects at the group level and other operational tasks.
  10. Provide escalated support for desktops, video conferencing, telephony, and SCADA systems.
  11. Support network infrastructure projects and assist with budget planning and procurement activities.
  12. Engage with third-party suppliers and group IT to implement new technologies.
  13. Perform any other tasks as delegated by the line manager.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
  • Excellent customer relationship management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical skills, and teamwork abilities.
  • Knowledge of Windows server infrastructure (Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, DHCP, Azure AD, ADFS, Reverse Proxy).
  • Network skills including VLANs, QoS, TCP/IP, SIP, RTP.
  • Minimum 4 years relevant experience; MSCE certification or equivalent; 2+ years in virtualization (Hyper-V or VMWare).
  • Supporting knowledge of Windows OS, Microsoft cloud technologies, VEEAM backup, NAS/SAN management.
  • Advantageous: Unix/Linux experience, CCNA/JNCIA certifications, SharePoint support experience.
