IT Desktop Support Engineer required in Johannesburg.

An established and reputable managed IT solutions partner, based in Sandton, is seeking a skilled and proactive Mid-Senior Level Desktop Support Engineer to join our team.

We specialize in providing end-to-end IT infrastructure solutions and support for South African SMEs, ensuring our clients can focus on their core business without the burden of technology challenges. Our mission is to deliver seamless connectivity, innovative software, and robust security, and we are looking for a professional who shares our commitment to excellence.

This role is for a dedicated individual who can provide desktop and server support and troubleshoot a wide range of IT-related issues. You will be a key point of contact for clients, handling responsibilities from system installation to remote administration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Support: Deliver support to customers on-site and remotely, assisting with both desktop and server-related issues.
  • System and Software Management: Install, configure, and support all Microsoft desktop and server operating systems and application software.
  • Troubleshooting: Perform hardware installation and troubleshooting for both desktops and servers, and handle general troubleshooting on all IT equipment.
  • Remote Administration: Conduct remote administration of client servers and workstations.
  • Administration and Supplier Management: Create configuration documentation for client sites and execute orders, service, and repairs with external suppliers.
  • Problem Identification: Identify potential risks or problems and escalate them to a senior engineer as needed.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A matriculation certificate is required.
  • An International MCSE or MCSA certification is advantageous, as is experience with Windows Server 2016 and above.
  • You must hold an A+, Server+, N+, or similar qualification.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of IT work experience is essential.
  • At least two years of server support and maintenance experience is required.
  • You should have knowledge of backup solutions like Veeam, Windows Backup, and Altaro.
  • Experience with remote support applications (e.g., VPN, RDP, Team Viewer) and a working knowledge of Active Directory and Office 365 administration are necessary.
  • A good understanding of TCP/IP networking, server hardware (including RAID), and troubleshooting procedures is required.
  • Experience configuring routers and wireless access points is also necessary.

  • You should be a self-starter with a passion for technology, capable of working under pressure while maintaining a methodical approach and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with a professional and well-presented demeanor, are a must.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Cost to company (CTC) between R18,000 and R28,000, dependent on qualifications, experience, and skill level.
  • The company contributes 50% to your medical aid.
  • You will receive reimbursement for company travel and a company-provided laptop.
  • Overtime is compensated in the form of commission.

The role requires you to have your own transport and the ability to work after hours on short notice when required.
