IT CUSTOMER ENGINEER SERVER SPECIALIST (IT INDUSTRY)

PLATTEKLOOF, CAPE TOWN

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Matric
  • Minimum 3-6 years solid IT experience
  • Minimum 2 years working experience in an enterprise server environment with administration and problem resolution of Windows Server
  • Minimum 2 years experience in virtualised workloads (VMWare / HyperV)
  • Certifications in: CompTIA A+ and N+, CCNA / CCNP, MCITP / MCSE on Windows Server 2012, Microsoft 365 Administration
  • Microsoft Azure Certification (ADVANTAGEOUS)
  • Vendor Certifications (HPE, DELL, LENOVO, IBM, etc.) (ADVANTAGEOUS)
  • Extensive knowledge & experience in: Desktops, Laptops, Printers, Network Copiers; Microsoft 365 Suite (Licensing, Products, Services); Windows 10 & 11 Operating Systems; Redundancy Strategies (RAID, HA, Failover, MPIO); Hypervisors (VMWARE, HyperV, Azure); Windows Server 2012 Operating Systems; Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, RDS Roles; Installation and Configuration of Exchange / SQL Server; Basic Scripting Tasks for Large Scale Deployments; LAN / WAN Solutions; Networking (VLAN, Routing, Switching); ITIL processes and experience in a production environment; Remote Monitoring Systems
  • Advantageous: SAN Storage Management; Public Services (DNS, Public IPs, Subnetting); Firewall Management (ACL, Zones, NAT); Installation and Maintenance of Proxy Servers
  • Excellent communication skills in both English & Afrikaans
  • Willing to work overtime and on standby support when scheduled (ESSENTIAL)
  • Valid driver's license (no endorsements) & own vehicle (ESSENTIAL)

Duties & Responsibilities

JOB FUNCTION :

Our client seeks an innovative, deadline-driven Technical Engineer to join their team. Responsibilities include assisting Engineers with design, construction, equipment installation, system configuration, maintenance, developing preventative maintenance plans, and providing customer support. Ability to troubleshoot, identify problems, and prepare reports is essential.

Successful candidates are meticulous, efficient, and possess sound engineering knowledge. Teamwork and problem-solving skills are highly valued.

KEY PERFORMANCE DUTIES :

  1. 1st Line Support : Support via email, phone, or remote assistance; diagnose and resolve hardware/software issues; troubleshoot connectivity; utilize Active Directory for user management; install/configure Windows 10/11 and Office 365; support hardware replacements; maintain documentation; ensure security compliance.
  2. 2nd Line Support : Support and troubleshoot system issues; manage HyperV and VMware environments; ensure patch compliance; collaborate on complex issues; perform server/security audits; support enterprise systems; lead infrastructure projects.
  3. 3rd Line Support : Oversee server and network troubleshooting; design and manage IT infrastructure; ensure SLA adherence; visit client sites; liaise with vendors; seek system improvements; document configurations; stay updated on industry trends; manage capacity; generate health reports; collaborate on technical solutions; enforce backup policies; develop preventative strategies.

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • Matric
  • 3-6 years solid IT experience
  • 2+ years in enterprise Windows Server environment
  • Experience with virtualized workloads (VMWare / HyperV)
  • Certifications: CompTIA A+, N+, CCNA/CCNP, MCITP / MCSE on Windows Server 2012, Microsoft 365
  • Azure and Vendor certifications are advantageous
  • Knowledge in desktops, laptops, printers, network, Microsoft 365, Windows OS, RAID, Hypervisors, Active Directory, SQL, scripting, LAN/WAN, ITIL, remote monitoring, SAN, DNS, firewall, proxy servers
  • Excellent English & Afrikaans communication skills
  • Willing to work overtime/standby (ESSENTIAL)
  • Valid driver’s license & own vehicle (ESSENTIAL)
