Placements24 seeks an Irrigation Systems Engineer in Mahikeng, North West, to design, implement, and optimize efficient irrigation solutions for diverse crops.

You will assess water resources, soil conditions, and crop needs, coordinate with farmers and agronomists, and lead upgrades to improve water use and sustainability. The role requires 5+ years in irrigation design, proficiency with AutoCAD or Irricad, and a hands-on approach to field installation and training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering or Civil Engineering with water resources specialization.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in irrigation design, implementation and management in agriculture.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulics, fluid dynamics and water resource management principles.
• Proficiency in irrigation design software (AutoCAD, Irricad) and related tools.
• Familiarity with drip, sprinkler and centre pivot systems.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and project management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work with diverse stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel frequently within the North West region.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop efficient irrigation system plans (drip, sprinkler, centre pivot).
• Assess on-farm water resources, soil types, topography and crop water needs.
• Calculate flow rates, pressures and pipe sizes for optimal performance.
• Oversee installation and commissioning of new irrigation systems.
• Conduct inspections and performance assessments of irrigation infrastructure.
• Identify and troubleshoot irrigation system performance, distribution, and water quality issues.
• Recommend upgrades or modifications to improve efficiency and sustainability.
• Develop operational guidelines and train farm personnel.
• Stay current with irrigation tech and water conservation practices.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications and cost estimates.
