Placements24 is seeking an experienced Irrigation Specialist to manage and optimize water use on agricultural lands in East London. You will design, install, operate and monitor irrigation systems to improve crop health while conserving resources.

The role requires a degree or diploma in Agricultural Engineering or Horticulture with an irrigation focus, at least four years of experience, and hands-on knowledge of soil moisture, weather data and system technology.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Agricultural Engineering, Horticulture, or related field with an irrigation focus.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in agricultural irrigation system management.
• Proficiency with different irrigation system technologies and water management principles.
• Knowledge of soil science and plant water requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans.
• Strong problem-solving skills and hands-on technical aptitude.

Responsibilities

• Design, install, and maintain various types of irrigation systems (drip, sprinkler, center pivot).
• Monitor soil moisture levels and weather patterns to determine optimal irrigation schedules.
• Troubleshoot and repair irrigation system malfunctions promptly.
• Assess water sources and ensure compliance with water usage regulations.
• Provide training and guidance to farm staff on proper irrigation techniques and system operation.
• Evaluate new irrigation technologies and recommend upgrades for improved efficiency.
