Applications are invited for the IP Core & Transmission Engineer position based in Stellenbosch.
This person will report to the IP Core and Transmission Team Lead.
Purpose of the Role:
The IP Core & Transmission Engineer will play a critical role in the design, implementation, and optimisation of our core network infrastructure. You will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our IP core and transmission network to ensure we meet the uptime requirements of the network.
Key Performance Areas:
- Responsible for the national IP Core network: Run the IP Core network with 99.99% uptime.
- Responsible for the national transmission network: Run transmission network with 99.99% availability.
Key Outputs:
- Network Architecture and Design: Develop network architecture and design plans for scalability, redundancy, and high availability.
- Network Implementation: Deploy and configure network equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls, and transmission equipment.
- Routing and Switching Configuration: Configure routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, MPLS) for efficient data routing.
- Quality of Service (QoS): Implement QoS policies to prioritize critical traffic.
- Security Measures: Implement security measures including ACLs, firewalls, IDPS, and VPNs.
- Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Set up monitoring tools to detect and resolve network issues.
- Capacity Planning: Analyze traffic patterns for capacity upgrades.
- Disaster Recovery and Redundancy: Design disaster recovery plans and redundancy mechanisms.
- Documentation: Maintain documentation of network configurations and changes.
- Network Optimization: Fine-tune configurations and upgrade hardware/software for better performance.
- Compliance and Regulatory Requirements: Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Team Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to meet goals.
- Training and Knowledge Sharing: Keep updated on latest technologies and share knowledge.
- Incident Response: Develop plans for security breaches and outages.
Candidate Requirements:
The successful candidate must have:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in network engineering in the IPS or FNO industry.
- Proficiency with JUNIPER, CISCO, or ARISTA equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12
- Relevant Bachelor’s Degree (advantageous)
- Networking Certifications such as JNCIP, CCNP, ITIL
