Investment Principal

Job Responsibilities

1. Design and execute strategies for raising funds from various sources including banks, donor funders, private equity firms, venture capitalists, government grants, and other sources.
2. Identify and tap potential funding sources, maintaining a robust pipeline of funding opportunities.
3. Develop and present compelling funding proposals tailored to the interests and requirements of potential funders.
4. Craft and manage detailed financial models to evaluate various funding scenarios and support negotiation processes.
5. Identify and respond to Request for Proposals (RFPs) on Enterprise Suppliers Development (ESD) and Third-Party Funders.
6. Draft each partner's performance update reports and close-out reports.
7. Conclude funding partnerships by effectively addressing queries from funders and negotiating terms and conditions that are in line with the organization's mandate, objectives, and capacity.
8. Work closely with the legal department in drafting and monitoring the partnership agreements and performance.
9. Provide progress and performance updates to all committees including Board and sub-Board committee(s).

Financial Planning and Analysis

1. Continuously identify and cultivate relationships with potential funders, maintaining a robust pipeline of funding opportunities.
2. Stay abreast of market trends both locally and internationally, funding sources, and emerging financial opportunities to optimize fundraising approaches.

Presentation and Deal Closure

1. Create and deliver compelling presentations to potential funders, effectively articulating the organization's financial needs and growth plans.
2. Lead negotiations to finalize funding agreements, ensuring terms and conditions are mutually beneficial and aligned with the organization's mandate and objectives.

Relationship Management

1. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with capital providers to ensure ongoing and positive engagement.
2. Regularly communicate with funders, providing updates on the organization's performance and the utilization of funds in a transparent and reliable manner.
3. Develop and implement co-funding partnerships that will unlock opportunities to provide finance to business ventures established and managed by black people.
4. Support the company's long-term financial sustainability by spreading risks through partnerships and increasing the company's ability to offer custom-made financing solutions.
5. Responsible for the management and leadership of team members.
6. Custodianship of the third-party funds.
7. Support funds in sourcing suitable transactions and monitor deal pipeline with the funds.
8. Develop management tools to monitor partnerships/relationships with stakeholders.
9. Assist in the assessment and evaluation of the outcome of partnerships.

Financial / Shareholder Returns

1. Optimize the balance of financial and development returns on programme management.
2. Together with team members, increase the pool of external funds to leverage the company balance sheet and resources.
3. Optimize company pricing through blended finance from third parties.
4. Efficacy in approval and disbursement of funds.
5. Design and negotiate agreements in respect of new funds (on or off-balance sheet) and third-party funds.
6. Effective fund structuring and portfolio management to ensure financial and development objectives of funds under management are achieved.

Internal / Operational Processes

1. Identification of concessionary funding that will reduce the company risk-based pricing.
2. Implement effective governance structures and systems and procedures for operational excellence.
3. Collaboration with government departments on identification and implementation of programmes/incentives and financing schemes.
4. Negotiate fund criteria and management of ring-fenced and third-party funds for the company.
5. Participate in presenting proposals and mandate letters to clients emphasizing the benefits of co-financing.
6. Lead and support strategies aimed at identification and facilitation of funds.
7. Regular reporting to internal and external stakeholders on the portfolio of the third-party funds and associated stakeholder engagement/management.
8. Build influential relationships, networks, and collaborate with internal and external key stakeholders and clients.
9. Retain and manage relationships with a wide network of professional advisors, consultants, etc.
10. Manage and enhance the levels of service and communication to ensure the provision of client service excellence.
11. Build relations and networks across the country with various levels of stakeholders in order to create, promote and maintain a good and professional image of the company.

This will include working with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) and other key stakeholders where required. Assist in the audit preparations of the company's annual B-BBEE rating, including providing an internal score. Assist with B-BBEE related policy formulation and implementation process.

Desired Experience & Qualification

1. Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Economics, or related field.
2. Postgraduate degrees such as Masters in the same field, CA (SA), certifications such as CFA would be advantageous.
3. Driven track record of successful fundraising and deal closures, with at least 5 years of experience in corporate finance, investment banking, or similar field.
4. Proficiency in financial modelling, valuation techniques, and risk analysis.
5. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to craft persuasive funding proposals and deliver impactful presentations.
6. Strong negotiation skills and a keen understanding of legal and contractual aspects related to fundraising and deal structuring.
7. Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including capital providers and internal teams.
8. 5-10 years' experience in raising funds or/and managing funding partnerships.
9. Experience in management of teams.
10. Experience in developing/reviewing and using corporate/project/structured finance financial models.
11. Grounded experience on development issues.
12. Strong customer focus and ability to engage effectively with senior officials of banks, corporates, and governments.
13. Experience working in a high-level collaborative and culturally diverse environment.
14. Ability to manage multiple competing priorities while building effective relationships.
15. Extremely organized and persistent, with drive and determination to achieve goals.
16. Extensive experience in B-BBEE verification/rating service.
17. Extensive knowledge of the BEE Act, Codes of Good Practice, sector charters, and PPPFA.
