The Fund

Off the back of our successful track record in conceptualizing and raising new infrastructure vehicles AIIM has been selected as the preferred manager for a new USD 200250 million target vehicle the African Transition Acceleration Fund 1 (The Fund).

The Fund intends to focus on early stage investing in the African energy transition landscape with a focus on 3 core thematic verticals including multiple subsectors broadly in the assetheavy climate infra space :

• Clean Electrons (Generation transmission battery storage energy efficiency etc)
• Clean Molecules (Production and handling of clean molecules)
• Sustainable Transport

The Fund will back infrastructure platforms with seasoned teams and an identified preconstruction pipeline investing in both overheads development costs and construction equity to enable the platforms to reach scale. The Fund will also invest in scaleup capital funding needs for growth companies for example in the electric mobility or energy efficiency sectors. The mandate is panAfrica including north Africa.

The fund will not take the following risks :

• Technology risk
• Proof of concept risk (i.e. investing prior to product market fit)
• Assuming major changes in policy or consumer behaviour

The Role :

An opportunity has arisen for a talented Investment Manager to join a dynamic newly created niche team working in the African Energy Transition landscape at AIIM. In this role you will run diligence processes on deals work with external service providers manage the analysts / associates in the team and attend deal meetings.

Key Responsibilities :

• Assist with originations of deal flow and investment opportunities
• Assume an investment and investment responsibility role within the team
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients external service providers and all internal stakeholders
• Evaluate structure negotiate and develop investment opportunities to close in accordance with the AIIM policies procedures and relevant good practice
• Take ownership of investment committee slide decks
• Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions
• Build out and / or provide oversight of project finance models
• Conduct risk analysis and review of financial statements and valuations
• Provide oversight of bid documents and presentations
• Apply industry / product knowledge to contribute meaningfully to deal origination and ongoing asset management
• Identify and escalate any relevant transaction dynamics to Fund Head
• Actively engage with AIIM asset management and operations teams including ESG in term of deal requirements and see those through
• Engage in fundraising activities including preparation of materials joining meetings and investor diligence trips and ongoing reporting to investors
• Be an active and valueadding participant in deal meetings and proactively pick up work generated in those meetings
• Be an active and valueadding member of the team in general
• Manage the analysts / associates in the team such that they can develop to their full potential

Skills & Experience

• Relevant Qualification (e.g. Honours Financial or Engineering degree)
• Significant international experience in climate investing plus transaction experience in Africa 5 years of direct deal doing experience and / or working in a relevant climate business development organization
• Demonstrable passion for earlystage business development in the climate space
• Well networked with solid relationships in order to set up for origination work bankers lawyers advisors
• Financial acumen the capacity to demonstrate knowledge of and insight into financial principles and processes and identify inconsistencies in data
• Good working knowledge of key commercial statutes and regulations as well as a general commercial orientation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Participates in developing investment recommendations for portfolio managers relating to existing and potential investments.
