Job summary

Adapt IT Group is seeking an experienced Intermediate Software Developer to join our telecommunications team in South Africa. You will work across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis to deployment and ongoing support.

You will design and develop secure, scalable software solutions, build customised modules, and integrate APIs and AI capabilities into telecom solutions with a focus on secure coding practices and data protection.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years’ hands-on software development experience.
  • Strong experience with modern programming languages such as Java, Golang, or Python.
  • Good understanding of secure software development, including authentication, authorisation, and data encryption.
  • Experience with relational databases such as MySQL.
  • Experience using Git or other version control systems.
  • Experience developing and integrating RESTful APIs and working with REST/SOAP.
  • Understanding of microservices architecture and integration patterns.
  • Proven experience delivering customised, customer-facing software solutions in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable software solutions.
  • Develop customised modules, APIs, integrations, and applications based on customer requirements.
  • Take ownership of assigned systems or platforms, ensuring performance, availability, reliability, and lifecycle management.
  • Apply secure coding practices and ensure compliance with security and data protection requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software bugs and production incidents, including root cause analysis.
  • Monitor and optimise system performance, availability, and scalability.
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to development and security standards.
  • Contribute to AI use cases and integrate AI capabilities into telecom solutions where applicable.
  • Work closely with Technical Leads, Project Managers, customers, and cross-functional teams.

Introduction

We are looking for an experienced Intermediate Software Developer to join our dynamic telecommunications team. This is an exciting opportunity for a developer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and developing secure, scalable software solutions for telecom operators.In this role, you will be involved in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and solution design through to development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the integration of AI and emerging technologies into innovative telecommunications solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable software solutions.
  • Develop customised modules, APIs, integrations, and applications based on customer requirements.
  • Take ownership of assigned systems or platforms, ensuring performance, availability, reliability, and lifecycle management.
  • Apply secure coding practices and ensure compliance with security and data protection requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software bugs and production incidents, including root cause analysis.
  • Monitor and optimise system performance, availability, and scalability.
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to development and security standards.

  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, estimation, planning, and delivery activities.
  • Support incident response and post-incident reviews for critical systems.
  • Continuously develop technical skills and share knowledge with team members.

  • Exposure to AI technologies or platforms such as TensorFlow, Azure AI, or AWS SageMaker.
  • Experience with Docker, Jenkins, CI/CD, or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience with responsible AI specification-driven development and agentic frameworks.
