Job Purpose:

To provide specialized prehospital healthcare to injured, sick, infirm, and aged persons, and emergency transport to medical facilities at ILS/ECA level of care when required.

Key Performance Areas:

1. Safe patient care in compliance with HPCSA protocols as an ILS/ECA.
2. Efficient handling of and response to emergency calls as per company policy.
3. Accurate completion and administration of all required patient and company documentation.
4. Responding timeously to all call outs.
5. Assessing health status of persons involved in accidents, natural disasters, and other emergency situations.
6. Monitoring changes in the health status of patients during transport to and from medical facilities.
7. Performing medical procedures/treatments at ILS/ECA level of training.
8. Efficient management of emergency medical and trauma calls as per company standards, policies, and procedures.
9. Recording patient conditions and treatments on Patient Report Forms (PRFs) according to HPCSA guidelines.
10. Accurate completion and submission of PRFs for processing.
11. Responsible driving of emergency vehicles in accordance with company policy and the National Road Traffic Act.
12. Safe operation of company vehicles and equipment.
13. Practicing strict infection control measures and maintaining a safe, healthy, and accident-free workplace.
14. Participating in continuous development activities to improve clinical and industry knowledge.
15. Complying with HPCSA CPD guidelines.
16. Inspiring, motivating, developing, and leading staff to ensure efficient clinical and professional emergency medical care.

Requirements:

• Current registration with HPCSA as ILS/ECA.
• Valid Code 8 or 10 driver’s license and PrDP (non-negotiable).
• Certificate in Ambulance Emergency Assistant/Emergency Care Assistant.
• Matric with Maths and Science.
• Minimum of one year’s post-qualification experience.
• Ability to work effectively in a team.
• Ability to perform and remain calm under high-pressure situations.
• Excellent telephonic/radio communication skills.
• Excellent communication skills with colleagues, hospital staff, and doctors.
• Fluent in English; additional languages advantageous.
• Flexibility to adapt and cope with changes at short notice.
• Strong administration skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in basic PC skills (Word, Excel, email).
