About The Role

The Core Insurance Platform team in Santam Technology Services is looking for a Developer, based in Bellville.

Job Description

The incumbent will be responsible for development, testing, maintenance, and support of software that meets business requirements on the Policy Administration System.

Principle Accountabilities

1. Adhere to defined software development lifecycles and best practices (including code standards, code reviews, source control, etc.)
2. Provide support to end users encountering issues with the core Insurance platform (Policycenter/BillingCenter/ContactManager)
3. Maintain the health and functionality of the core Insurance platform through proactive monitoring, diagnosing, and resolving issues promptly
4. Configure and develop screens and applications that meet business requirements (UI’s, business logic, rules, process flow, etc.)
5. Create test data and unit tests to ensure developed software meets business requirements, design, and specifications
6. Consider non-functional requirements during software development (e.g., performance, load, response)
7. Support and maintain developed applications and services
8. Help maintain SLAs through quick resolution of incidents

Generic Functions

1. Collaborate with team members across the SDLC in an Agile/self-managed environment
2. Identify potential risks/issues and contribute to risk planning
3. Support other Development Team members and Project Management team as required

Quality Assurance

1. Conduct unit and functional testing to ensure quality standards
2. Participate in code reviews and technical issue resolution meetings

Qualifications And Experience

1. Relevant Tertiary IT qualification and/or experience
2. Minimum of 3 years’ IT development experience across the systems development lifecycle

Solid Experience In

1. Java 8, J2EE
2. Object-oriented development
3. Web application development
4. Web services
5. Experience or familiarity with SQL

Knowledge

1. Knowledge of SOLID principles / Design Patterns
2. Familiarity with Atlassian Suite (e.g., Bamboo, JIRA, Confluence) is advantageous
3. Knowledge of Agile methods (e.g., Kanban, SCRUM)
4. Knowledge of the short-term insurance industry is advantageous
