Job summary

Milnerton, Cape Town, is seeking an Interior Designer with 2–4 years of space planning experience for a manufacturing client. The role focuses on interior layouts, furniture design, and cabinetry construction, requiring SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and strong technical drawing interpretation.

Key duties include creating 2D/3D designs, producing production drawings, and collaborating with engineering and production teams to ensure manufacturability and aesthetics. Proficiency in English is essential.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in interior design or an equivalent qualification is required.
  • Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS is essential; proficiency in AUTOCAD and CATIA is also listed.
  • Strong understanding of space planning and interior layout optimisation.
  • Strong understanding of furniture design and cabinetry construction.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and manufacturing requirements.
  • Strong computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

  • Develop interior layouts and concepts.
  • Create detailed 2D and 3D interior designs using SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD.
  • Design furniture, cabinetry, and bespoke interior components.
  • Produce manufacturing drawings and design documentation for production.
  • Optimise interior spaces focusing on ergonomics, functionality, and aesthetics.
  • Select materials, finishes, fabrics, and fittings while considering durability and FF&E schedules.
  • Collaborate with naval architects, engineers, and production teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate client and stakeholder feedback.
  • Assist with prototype development and resolve design issues during production.
  • Ensure all designs comply with company standards, quality requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Keep abreast of current trends in interior design, furniture design, and luxury interiors.
