Job summary

Crisis24 in Cape Town seeks an Aviation and Maritime Research Analyst to support the World Airline Monitor and related intelligence products. You will conduct research, write concise analyses, and contribute to monthly newsletters for international clients.

We value strong English communication, rigorous analysis, and the ability to work under pressure with hybrid office arrangements. A related degree and research experience are preferred.

Job description

Who We Are Looking For

• Education or work experience in aviation, transportation, or maritime areas
• An understanding of key global affairs and awareness of how events can impact the aviation industry
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English required
• Crisis24 has international clients and comprises a multinational workforce across multiple continents. French language ability is highly desirable, and we are interested in any other language proficiencies
• Exceptional research and analysis skills. Two years of research and analysis experience in a professional setting preferred
• Ability to summarize complex information clearly, accurately, and concisely
• Proficient in Office suite software, general computer literacy, basic mapping tools (such as Google MyMaps), and cybersecurity practices for business

What You Will Work On

• Adhere to methodology to assist the senior aviation analyst with the World Airline Monitor, a ranking system for airlines to help book the best choices for travelers to avoid cancellations or potentially unsafe operations
• Answer client concerns and specific questions relating to aviation or shipping through a feedback/ QA program with Customer Service
• Contribute research and writing to create the Airline Safety Newsletter, a monthly newsletter for clients detailing significant events of the past month and special focus topics
• Assist the senior maritime analyst in tracking and documenting these incidents and drafting related reports. Monitor maritime incidents and maintain awareness of all threats and major issues affecting shipping or other maritime operations in the absence of the senior maritime analyst
• Liaise with regional teams and other Crisis24 branches for aviation or maritime-related matters, e.g. air traffic control strikes
• Assist in research and curation of aviation and maritime location intelligence
• Stay informed on emerging developments, incidents, and trends across the aviation and maritime sectors to support timely and accurate analysis
• Support the wider transportation team with research, analysis, reporting, and other intelligence-related tasks as required

Who You Will Work With

You will be part of the transportation team, which comprises an aviation analyst and a maritime analyst. You will also be expected to work alongside the Crisis24 regional analysis teams and with other Crisis24 branches. These may include Crisis and Security Consulting, Global Protective Solutions, and our single-client dedicated and embedded intelligence teams.

• A Bachelor's Degree in a related field is required (aviation, transportation, maritime, or security)
• Ability to take initiative and work under pressure or tight deadlines
• A strong interest in continued cultivation of knowledge in all aspects of transportation
• Ability to consult written standards to follow guidelines to complete tasks, and openness to constructive criticism and editing
• Self-motivation to learn new tools and methods and to seek new opportunities for professional self-improvement
• Confidence in direct communication and presentation with internal and external stakeholders, such as briefings or Q&A sessions
• Excellent reading comprehension and writing skills
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify key information and communicate findings effectively
