Job description

Our client, who operates in the short-term and commercial lines insurance industry, is looking for an Insurance Consultant to join their team. Based in Johannesburg (Parktown), the insurance consultant role is focused on providing an end-to-end service and support to brokers.

What does an Insurance Consultant do?

  1. Servicing broker requests, including enquiries.
  2. Providing telephonic/email support to the intermediary on record, authorised representatives from the brokerage, and broker services.
  3. Dealing with general insurance and policy-specific enquiries.
  4. Dealing with issuance of new policies, policy maintenance, renewal, and Agri aspects of policies.
  5. Assisting to resolve all insurance queries within required timeframe and compliance requirements.
  6. Undertaking client follow-ups when policies are cancelled to ascertain the reasons and attempt to retain the policy on the books.
  7. Adjusting premiums in line with new asset values.
  8. Managing client expectations on expected turnaround times for submitted requests.
  9. Adhering to underwriting criteria and regional requirements.
  10. Assisting with profiling the client with the best suitable product and underwriting criteria.
  11. Advising brokers to ensure that we meet clients’ needs in terms of the correct cover and product.
  12. Assisting in implementing solutions for improvement.
  13. Standing in for Consultants should they be absent.

Qualification and Experience

  1. Matric/Grade 12
  2. 60 commercial lines FAIS credits
  3. A relevant insurance-related qualification (e.g. NQF lev 5) would be advantageous.
  4. Proven work experience in commercial, agriculture policy administration, and underwriting within the short-term insurance industry.
  5. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in short-term insurance commercial lines and/or Agri assets.

  1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  2. Excellent interpersonal skills, collaborating with internal colleagues and external stakeholders/clients.
  3. Ensure adherence to quality, compliance, and accreditation standards.
  4. Conduct efficient administration.
  5. Optimising work processes.
