Job description

SUMMARY :

We are seeking an Instrumentation Technician for a permanent position based in Boksburg. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning and executing both planned and unplanned maintenance on PLCs, instrumentation, and associated control systems by testing, calibrating, installing, repairing, inspecting, and monitoring equipment according to quality and safety standards.

POSITION DETAILS :

Responsibilities include:

  1. Conduct Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) on plant equipment.
  2. Perform planned maintenance (Daily / Weekly / Monthly) following OEM standards.
  3. Address unplanned machine and service interruptions.
  4. Review and amend preventative maintenance schedules as needed.
  5. Complete Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for all breakdowns.
  6. Install, calibrate, operate, troubleshoot instrumentation equipment & control systems.
  7. Program and troubleshoot PLCs, VSDs, flow meters, and level transmitters.
  8. Perform backups on control systems.
  9. Read and interpret schematics, programming, and technical specifications.
  10. Refer to manufacturer's manuals for repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  11. Enhance plant productivity and quality through preventative measures.
  12. Identify and support continuous improvement projects to reduce line and batch losses.
  13. Assist project teams in installing and commissioning new equipment.
  14. Upgrade older equipment as required.
  15. Review technical modifications, additions, major repairs, and electrical tasks.
  16. Coordinate with independent contractors for instrumentation, control systems, repairs, and installations.

Requirements :

  • A technical qualification in Instrumentation (NQF 6–7) with experience in programming PLCs and VSDs is essential.
  • Previous experience in an FMCG environment with high-speed packaging machines (HMI-driven) and practical knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems & plant automation is preferred.
  • Training on AVEVA & Festo is advantageous.
  • Must demonstrate precise workmanship, problem-solving skills, and excellent relations with internal customers and suppliers.
  • Honesty and integrity are essential qualities.
