Location: Nestlé East London Factory

Qualification: Tertiary qualification in Instrumentation. Trade certificate in Instrumentation (Red Seal) is mandatory.

  • N6/S4 in Instrumentation, Digital Electronics, or Electrical Engineering

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of previous experience in instrumentation, preferably in an FMCG environment.

Position Summary

As an Instrumentation Technician, you will work to improve machinery and asset performance, reporting daily to the Automation Engineer.

The factory is actively implementing continuous improvement and TPM processes, making this an exciting opportunity to contribute significantly.

Your responsibilities include calibration and maintenance of onsite instrumentation to ensure compliance with food safety standards, attending to faults and breakdowns, and calibrating equipment such as Metal Detectors and X-ray machines.

What will make you successful
  • At least 3 years of instrumentation experience
  • Tertiary qualification in Instrumentation; Trade certificate (Red Seal) mandatory
  • N6/S4 in Instrumentation, Digital Electronics, or Electrical Engineering
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Effective communication skills with various stakeholders
  • Sense of urgency with a commitment to safety and quality
  • Experience with hazardous area ratings and installations
  • Knowledge of control systems, data interfaces, and communication protocols
  • Familiarity with process control PLC systems; experience with Allen Bradley PLCs is an advantage
  • Leadership skills, including facilitating team meetings and mentoring production staff on instrumentation
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Calibrating CCP equipment and instrumentation such as Metal Detectors and X-ray machines
  • Maintaining date coding equipment
  • Faultfinding and programming on instrumentation, PLCs, and VSDs
  • Ensuring machine availability to meet production targets
