Job description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

  • To ensure plant availability and adequate systems control to assist operations in meeting production targets by resolving problems in plant instrumentation, PLC hardware/program / SCADA.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • NQF Level 6 in Instrumentation and Process Control with an Instrument Mechanician Trade Test is essential.
  • External: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in control systems, including SCADA and PLC Networks, is required.
  • Internal: 1 year of experience as a PLC Mechanician or internal Instrument Technician.
  • Knowledge and experience with the Siemens PLC is an added advantage.
  • Sound knowledge of process control systems, piping, and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Knowledge of HAZOP studies and a good understanding of mining/refining and chemical plant processes.
  • Excellent calculation, problem-solving, analytical and advanced computer skills.
  • Medically fit for Platinum Metal Refineries (PMR)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Control and perform instrumentation maintenance by conducting regular plant inspections, performing consistent plant maintenance, purchasing spares, and maintaining spare levels.
  • Implement modifications and renewals by attending HAZOP studies, selecting and purchasing required equipment.
  • Install and commission equipment, including PLC commissioning and programming.
  • Perform and document calibrations as per ISO standards on relevant equipment.
  • Attend to breakdowns and assist instrumentation personnel on technical matters to maintain optimal plant availability.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, security, health, environmental and quality standards/procedures.
