ROLE PURPOSE AND WORK OUTPUT

ROLE PURPOSE The INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN is responsible for own safety in terms of section 2.9.3 MHSA as well as for the implementation, maintenance and optimisation of control and Instrumentation systems in the mining, mineral processing and refining environment. This position will provide support to the production team by ensuring the safe and effective functioning of all instrumentation and automated processes. The work covers planned maintenance, breakdowns and project work. This position will provide support to the Operational & Maintenance teams by assisting with Engineering, Design, Maintenance, fault-finding, implementation and Improvements to Instrumentation related Process, Equipment control and measurement systems.

WORK OUTPUT/KRA (Key Responsibility Areas)

ONGOING ACCOUNTABILITIES Technical Update and Maintain Instrumentation related documents (i/o lists, drawings, POC and functional specifications) Ensure regular backups of control systems and rollbacks is conducted according to plan. Configure, setup and test instrumentation and control systems Configure, develop and maintain controls systems algorithm and mimics Ensure optimization of process control and measuring systems Participate in all projects related to the control and instrumentation scope within section and ensure correctness of C & I and implementations Execute fault-finding and rectification of control and measurement system failures Assist with root cause failure analysis and fault-finding. (SIR) Focus on safe production, Operational & Work Process functionality Planned Maintenance Complete planned maintenance activities and priorities according to schedule Cost effective maintenance activities in line with monthly budget guidelines. Conduct effective planning for execution of task Adherence to planned maintenance schedules. Attend to process control breakdowns. Monitor and advise on the settings of machinery to optimise performance. Configure, setup and ensures accuracy and precision of measurement systems is maintained Find the cause of breakdowns and correct Ensure critical spares stock levels is identified and maintained. Ensure that the required material, equipment and spares are available to achieve all planned task outcomes. Develop control systems algorithms for PLC programming, HMI and Network systems to standard Continues update of relevant C & I documentation (Loop drawings, IO schedules, etc.) Standby duties and breakdown assistance Maintenance, Construction & Equipment Availability Workmanship and Quality Support system integrators and installation contractors to ensure safety and quality of technical standards is maintained. Escalate any problematic process conditions to supervisor for further action. Ensure design, engineering and installation is up to standards during design and construction phases of project related work. Monitoring of process and process controls on a regular basis to ensure conformance to the prescribed standards.

Administration & Reporting

Attend required meetings (Planning, Project & Team) Completion of audit actions Adhere to document control standards and procedures. Communicate process problems to necessary line management. Safekeeping of C & I documentation. Fill-out ad-hoc reports, calibration certification for relevant stakeholders when required. Complete maintenance documentation accurately

Continuous Improvement & operational excellence

Analyse, Identify and Implement improvements to measurement and control equipment. Participation in improvement projects. Identify risks and threats to the process proactively. Participate in the upgrade and improvements of C & I systems infrastructure and software (PLC hardware, IO Modules, control programmed. HMI version control)

Stakeholder Relations

Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and cross functionally. Ensuring open communication channels with all relevant stakeholders Communicate effectively with management Encourage a sense of pride amongst the section employees regarding their workmanship Implement central C & I strategic initiatives, standards and provide feedback on the plan. Support and participate in the training and development requirements of C & I learners and interns

SA PGM Operations: Enhance Together for Sustainability (eTfS) initiative. SHE Compliance Comply with SHE standards within the work environment. Participate in risk assessments and investigate and take appropriate action as per identified risks. Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures. Participation on SHEC related campaigns and initiatives Conduct risk assessments before each task Instil a culture of SHE leadership within the department. Participate in regional/local bodies and decision-making forums in the process developing a business relevant external environment, that will result in the longer-term sustainability of the Division. Ensure all hazardous instrumentation devices are maintained and stored properly (e.g., radioactive equipment). Participate in incidents and accidents investigations if and when required. Ensure elimination of all safety hazards related to C & I Ensure the Implementation of Safety Actions Report Near misses Will be subjected to PTO `s & VFLs Participate in daily green Area (Tool box Talk) Quality Management System (QMS): Comply with requirements of the Quality Management System.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Qualifications:

Diploma qualification in Electrical Engineering process control instrumentation which include any one of the following: Diploma in Electrical Engineering light current - Majoring in INSTRUMENTATION & Process control obtained through Universities of Technology with completed (Practical) P1 and P2 (NQF 6) OR Diploma in Electrical Engineering light current - Majoring in INSTRUMENTATION & Process control obtained through TVET Colleges Complete with a valid trade test certificate (NQF 6) Experience: 2 years experience as an Instrument Mechanician, or Instrumentation Technician in a mineral processes plant, refinery or mining environment. Advanced experience in PLC /DCS, computerised process control systems.
