Instrument Technician

DOMAIN : BMR ENGINEERING NICKEL INSTRUMENTS

PURPOSE OF THE JOB : To ensure plant availability and adequate systems control to assist operations in meeting production targets by resolving problems in plant instrumentation, PLC hardware/program/SCADA.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS :

1. NQF Level 6 National Diploma in Instrumentation and Process Control with an Instrument Mechanician Trade Test essential.
2. Minimum of 3 years' experience in control systems, including SCADA and PLC Networks required.
3. Knowledge and experience on the Allen Bradley PLC is an added advantage.
4. Sound knowledge of process control systems, piping and instrumentation diagrams.
5. Knowledge of HAZOP studies and a good understanding of mining/refining and chemical plant processes.
6. Excellent calculation, problem solving, analytical and advanced computer skills.
7. Medically fit for Base Metal Refineries (BMR).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Control and perform instrumentation maintenance by conducting regular plant inspections, perform consistent plant maintenance, purchase spares and maintain spare levels.
2. Implement modifications and renewals by attending HAZOP studies, select and purchase required equipment.
3. Install and commission equipment, including PLC commissioning and programming.
4. Perform and document calibrations as per ISO standards on relevant equipment.
5. Attend to breakdowns and assist instrumentation personnel on technical matters to maintain optimal plant availability.
6. Ensure compliance with safety, security, health, environmental and quality standards/procedures.
