Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Research Scientist in Durban to lead molecular biology research, including design and execution of experiments, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. You will work in a collaborative lab, contribute to ongoing projects, and help shape the scientific direction of the program.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD with at least 3 years post‑doctoral or equivalent industry experience, strong publication history, and proficiency in modern molecular techniques.

Qualifications

• PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics or closely related field.
• Minimum 3 years of post-doctoral research or equivalent industry experience in molecular biology.
• Proven expertise across a broad range of molecular biology techniques.
• Strong publication track record and ability to present complex data.

Responsibilities

• Design, execute and optimize molecular biology experiments (cloning, PCR, qPCR, Western blot).
• Investigate gene function, protein interactions and cellular pathways.
• Develop new protocols and validate assays for research objectives.
• Analyze data with appropriate statistics and software; interpret results.
• Maintain detailed lab notebooks and collaborate with PI and team to set goals.
• Prepare reports and manuscripts for publications; present findings at meetings.
