Applications are invited for the Infrastructure Technician - Senior position to be based in Stellenbosch.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The Infrastructure Technician Senior will be responsible for constructing and maintaining wireless and fibre network infrastructure, leading their team in these tasks. Responsibilities include installation, configuration of equipment, and managing physical structures to host equipment.
Key Performance Areas include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in constructing, installing, and maintaining communication towers, fibre networks, and support structures.
- Respond to network outages promptly, including highsite outages and fibre network breaks.
- Climb tall structures daily (50 meters or more) with loads up to 20kg.
- Analyze situations to identify potential risks affecting high site performance and maintain safety standards.
- Perform tower climbing for installation, replacement, and repair of antenna systems and general maintenance.
- Build and repair fibre infrastructure, including expansions and damage repairs.
- Install and maintain various cable and connector types, weatherproofing installations.
- Maintain power equipment and data routers.
- Follow work instructions, escalate issues, and report safety hazards.
- Work with hand tools and mechanical equipment, travel as needed, and lead a team of technicians.
- Plan future infrastructure needs and perform ad hoc tasks as required.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 2 to 4 years of industry experience.
- Valid driver’s license; off-road driving experience advantageous.
- Up-to-date medical certificate.
- Completed Working at Heights and Tower Rescue Training.
- Technically inclined with manual labour experience related to site prep and equipment setup.
- Proficiency with hand tools, mechanical equipment, and working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Knowledge of municipal regulations, safety equipment, and hazard recognition.
- Physical fitness to climb towers with equipment, withstand environmental conditions, and carry loads.
- Basic computer skills, understanding of electricity, solar energy, power, batteries, network, and RF principles.
- Good communication, fault-finding, problem-solving, and task prioritization skills.
Education:
- Grade 12 (Maths and Science advantageous).
- OSHA Certification advantageous.
