Applications are invited for the Infrastructure Technician - Junior position to be based in Jeffreys Bay.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The Infrastructure Technician Junior will be responsible for maintaining wireless and fibre network infrastructure under the supervision of a Senior Team Member. This includes installation, configuration of equipment, and constructing physical structures that host equipment.
Key Performance Areas include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in constructing, installing, and maintaining communication towers, fibre networks, and support structures.
- Respond to network tower outages, including highsite outages and fibre network breaks, meeting project deadlines.
- Climb tall structures (50 meters or more) daily, carrying loads up to 20kg.
- Analyze situations, identify potential risks, and maintain safety, executing appropriate actions as guided by a senior team member.
- Install, replace, and repair antenna systems/equipment on communication towers.
- Build and repair fibre network infrastructure, including expansions and damages repair.
- Install and maintain various cables and connectors, weatherproof installations.
- Maintain power equipment and data routers.
- Follow instructions according to work schedules, escalate issues to seniors when necessary.
- Identify safety hazards and perform duties safely.
- Communicate effectively with team members and management.
- Use and maintain hand tools and mechanical equipment.
- Travel extensively, sometimes at short notice.
- Erect self-supporting and stayed masts.
- Perform any ad hoc tasks assigned by the manager.
Candidate Requirements:
- 1 to 2 years of industry experience.
- Driver's license; off-road driving experience advantageous.
- Up-to-date medical certificate.
- Completed Working at Heights and Tower Rescue Training.
- Technically inclined with experience in manual labour related to site prep and equipment setup, preferably in fibre and RF fields.
- Proficient with hand tools and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Good understanding of municipal regulations and by-laws.
- Proficient in safety equipment, harnesses, climbing gear.
- Knowledge of hazards associated with tower climbing, construction equipment, energized lines.
- Physically fit for climbing towers, carrying equipment, working in various environmental conditions, with no fear of heights.
- Maximum combined weight of employee and tools: 125kg; waist circumference not exceeding 150cm.
- Basic computer skills, understanding of electricity, solar energy, power and battery equipment.
- Basic network and RF principles, troubleshooting, hardware, software, routing, and RF protocols knowledge.
- Knowledge of cable and trunking techniques.
- Effective communication, fault-finding, problem-solving, task prioritization skills.
Educational Requirements:
- Grade 12 (Maths and Science advantageous).
