About the Role

Our client is a prominent financial services institution seeking an experienced Information Security Architect to oversee the design and implementation of secure IT infrastructures in Bloemfontein. This critical role involves translating business requirements into robust security solutions, ensuring that all systems and applications are protected against current and emerging cyber threats. The Security Architect will be responsible for developing and maintaining the organization's security architecture roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements. You will work closely with various IT and business units to integrate security principles into the entire system development lifecycle. This is an on-site position based in Bloemfontein, offering a chance to significantly influence the company's security posture.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement enterprise-wide information security architecture and standards.
• Evaluate and recommend security technologies and solutions to address business needs and security risks.
• Develop security blueprints and reference architectures for various technology domains, including cloud, network, and application security.
• Collaborate with system architects, engineers, and developers to ensure security is embedded in system designs.
• Conduct security reviews of proposed solutions and provide guidance on security best practices.
• Develop and maintain security policies, standards, and guidelines.
• Lead threat modeling exercises and risk assessments for new and existing systems.
• Stay informed about emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security technologies.
• Mentor and guide junior security personnel on architectural best practices.
• Ensure architecture designs comply with relevant regulatory and compliance frameworks.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in information security, with at least 3 years in a security architecture role.
• Deep understanding of security principles, frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001), and technologies (e.g., firewalls, IDS/IPS, WAF, SIEM, endpoint security).
• Proven experience in designing secure solutions for complex IT environments, including cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Strong knowledge of network protocols, cryptography, identity and access management (IAM), and application security.
• Experience with scripting languages and automation for security tasks is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex security concepts to diverse audiences.
• Professional security certifications such as CISSP-ISSAP, SABSA, or similar are highly valued.
• Must be able to work full-time in Bloemfontein.
