Placements24 is seeking an Information Security Analyst specializing in Threat Detection to join a proactive security team in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. The role focuses on real-time threat identification, analysis, and response to protect sensitive research data and intellectual property.

You will work with advanced security tools (SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS) to monitor networks, systems and applications, developing detection rules and pursuing threat hunting initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in information security focusing on security operations or threat detection.
• Hands-on experience with SIEM platforms and security event analysis.

Responsibilities

• Monitor security alerts from SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewalls, and endpoint tools.
• Analyze security events to identify threats, intrusions, and policy violations.
• Investigate incidents, perform forensic analysis, and document findings.
• Develop and tune detection rules and signatures to improve threat ID.
• Conduct threat hunting to proactively identify undetected threats.
• Collaborate with IT operations to implement security controls and remediation.
• Prepare incident reports and communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Stay updated on threat intel and attack techniques.
• Contribute to security monitoring tools and processes.
• Participate in on-call rotation for critical incidents.

Key Responsibilities

• Stay current with the latest threat intelligence, vulnerabilities, and attack techniques.

• Participate in on‑call rotation for critical security incidents as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in information security, with a focus on security operations or threat detection.
• Hands‑on experience with SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, ELK Stack, QRadar) and security event analysis.
• Knowledge of network protocols, operating systems, and common attack vectors.
• Experience with endpoint security solutions (EDR) and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).
• Familiarity with threat intelligence feeds and methodologies.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team.
• Relevant certifications such as Security+, CEH, or SANS certifications are a plus.
