MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To ensure the implementation and maintenance of a functional Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programme at the hospital level.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
  • Identify, mitigate, and manage risks related to Infection Prevention and Control.
  • Investigate, analyze, and interpret clinical data and act upon findings.
  • Ensure adherence to statutory bodies.
  • Identify training needs in the hospital and provide input in the development of training material.
  • Influence and equip hospital teams to understand and comply with IPC policies and principles.
  • Provide support with patient safety and quality improvement initiatives in the absence of the Patient Safety Manager.
  • Engage in continuous professional development.
Required Education

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION: Nursing qualification (degree or diploma).

DESIRED EDUCATION: Formal IPC course / Post Graduate diploma in IPC.

Required Experience

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years working in a hospital environment as a professional healthcare practitioner.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE: 1-2 years IPC-related work, supervision of a small team.

  • Conducting a system analysis of healthcare-associated infections and instituting preventative measures.
  • Interpretation and application of CDC definitions.
  • Auditing (e.g., compliance to hand hygiene and environmental cleaning audits).
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office).
  • IPC surveillance and risk identification.
  • Report writing skills.
  • Identification, investigation, and management of outbreaks.
  • Understanding and application of relevant IPC principles.
  • Data analysis and interpretation.
  • Knowledge of relevant statutory requirements and accreditation standards.
  • Knowledge and experience in quality improvement methodology.
