Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for an Industrial Designer at THEURBANATIVE. As an Industrial Designer, you will be responsible for developing and executing design concepts, creating detailed product specifications, and overseeing the material selection and prototyping along with product development process as well costing of products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that design objectives are met and products are delivered on time and within budget.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial design, preferably in the furniture or home décor industry.
• Skills:
• High proficiency in design software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, and 3D rendering tools.
• Strong skills in Industrial Design and Product Design.
• Strong sketching and ideation skills.
• Excellent understanding of product development processes, materials, manufacturing processes, and ergonomics.
• Ability to translate concepts into contemporary design solutions.
• Strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and HIGH attention to detail.
• Effective communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Interest in Marketing: A keen interest in the marketing of products on social media platforms and an understanding of how design impacts brand presence and consumer engagement online.
• Experience in prototyping and design thinking.
• Strong visual and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in the manufacturing industry is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

• Concept Development: Generate creative design concepts for furniture and products that reflect TheUrbanative’s brand ethos and cultural heritage.
• Sketching and Rendering: Create detailed sketches, 3D models, and renderings to visualize design ideas and communicate them effectively to the team and stakeholders.
• Prototyping: Develop prototypes to test and refine designs, ensuring they meet functional and aesthetic standards.
• Material and Process Research: Research and select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes that align with design objectives and sustainability goals.
• Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other designers, engineers, artisans, and manufacturers to bring designs from concept to reality.
• Costing: Develop cost estimates for product designs, considering materials, manufacturing processes, labour, and other expenses to ensure designs are commercially viable.
• Technical Drawings: Produce detailed technical drawings and specifications for manufacturing.
• Market and Trend Analysis: Stay updated on market trends, emerging technologies, and industry best practices to inform design decisions.
• Project Management: Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project timelines and budgets.
