Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a diligent Construction Safety Officer for projects in Upington, Northern Cape. You will develop and enforce site safety protocols across industrial construction sites, ensuring adherence to OHS Act and safety standards.

The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of construction safety experience, relevant OHS qualifications (SAMTRAC/NEBOSH), and strong communication and reporting skills to drive a proactive safety culture on site.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a Safety Officer on construction sites
• In-depth knowledge of the South African OHS Act and related regulations
• Strong observational and reporting skills
• Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific health and safety plans
• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify hazards
• Investigate accidents and near misses and recommend corrective actions
• Deliver safety training and toolbox talks to site personnel
• Ensure compliance with OHS Act regulations and safety standards
• Maintain safety records including incident reports and training logs
• Advise project management on safety matters and best practices
• Promote a positive safety culture and encourage participation
• Monitor PPE usage and adequacy
• Liaise with external safety bodies and client representatives
