Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Industrial Automation Technician to contribute to advanced manufacturing operations in Stellenbosch. The role encompasses installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of automated systems, robotics, and control processes to drive production efficiency.

You will work with state-of-the-art technology, read schematics, program PLCs and HMIs, and collaborate with engineering to upgrade automation.

Qualifications

• Experience as Industrial Automation Technician or in a similar role in automated manufacturing systems.
• Proficient in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and HMI development.
• Strong troubleshooting of electromechanical and control systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs and automation layouts.
• Experience with industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profibus) is advantageous.
• Relevant technical degree or diploma in mechatronics, electrical engineering, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and commission automation equipment including robots, PLCs, HMIs, and sensors.
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
• Diagnose and resolve complex issues in control systems and software/hardware integration.
• Program and update PLC logic and HMI interfaces for process optimization.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to implement improvements and upgrades to automation systems.
• Ensure automation processes comply with safety regulations and standards.
