High-Level Overview

Client : The client is an investment and advisory firm focused on private capital markets in West Africa, with expertise in energy, infrastructure, and SME growth.

The team has extensive experience in corporate finance, transaction advisory, and investment strategy, supporting mid-market businesses across the region.

Project : This role pertains to their upcoming West Africa Fund, investing mainly in Nigeria and Ghana across sectors like clean energy, agribusiness, consumer goods, and tech-enabled services.

Role and Responsibilities

To enhance governance, the fund is establishing an Investment Committee and seeks an Independent IC Member.

The Committee will meet monthly (virtually), with quarterly sessions (also virtual) requiring prep, and one annual in-person meeting.

The role involves approximately 20–25 days per year, including prep and meetings.

  • Attend ~12 virtual IC meetings annually (plus one in-person meeting, possibly requiring travel)
  • Provide strategic insights, risk assessment, and investment evaluation
  • Review investment memos and quarterly reports
  • Participate in final investment decision-making
  • Contribute post-investment monitoring insights
Requirements
  • Over 10 years in private equity, investment advisory, or corporate finance
  • Experience influencing investment decisions, presenting to investment committees, or holding board roles
  • Exit strategy experience
  • African business experience, especially in West Africa (Nigeria, Ghana)
  • Familiarity with emerging markets (e.g., Southeast Asia) is a plus
  • Technical skills: familiarity with mid-sized fund structures (~$75M), understanding of investments between $2M–$10M, sector experience in clean energy, agribusiness, FMCG, tech-enabled businesses (preferred but not mandatory), strong SME investing knowledge
  • Soft skills: strategic thinking, sound judgment, ability to challenge constructively, excellent communication skills
Location and Terms

Remote work, fluent in English, 5-year investment period, flexible continuation, fixed annual compensation (TBD).
