Job description

The Senior Technical Accountant will report directly to the Executive.

Our client in the insurance industry is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Technical Accountant who possesses strong technical skills, excellent IFRS knowledge, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

The ideal candidate will have a background in insurance and possess a CA(SA) qualification.

Reporting directly to the Executive, the Senior Technical Accountant will be responsible for a variety of tasks including but not limited to IFRS technical papers, IFRS guidance, IFRS 17 implementation, and involvement in broader mergers and acquisitions activities.

Key Responsibilities :

Conduct in-depth analysis and research on complex accounting issues related to IFRS standards.Prepare technical papers and guidance documents on IFRS topics relevant to the insurance industry.Lead and support the implementation of IFRS 17 standards, ensuring compliance and accuracy in financial reporting.Provide expert advice and guidance on accounting treatments for mergers, acquisitions, and other business transactions.Stay updated on regulatory changes and updates to IFRS standards, ensuring adherence to best practices and compliance requirements.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide technical accounting support and expertise.Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures.Participate in ad-hoc projects and initiatives as required.Qualifications and Experience : Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in accounting, preferably within the insurance industry.Strong understanding of IFRS standards, with specific knowledge of IFRS 2, 3, 9, 15, 16, and 17 (advantageous).Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.Proven track record of delivering high-quality work within tight deadlines.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
