The IFRS 9 Specialist will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of IFRS 9 impairment models and policies. The role will ensure compliance with accounting standards, manage model governance, and support accurate financial reporting.
- Develop, implement, and maintain IFRS 9 models, methodologies, and processes for impairment calculation.
- Perform regular reviews and recalibrations of IFRS 9 models to ensure their validity and compliance with evolving standards and regulations.
- Provide technical accounting expertise on IFRS 9 and its application to new and existing products, transactions, and business developments.
- Lead or support the design and execution of model validation, back-testing, and governance processes.
- Work closely with Finance, Risk, Credit, and IT teams to source and verify the data required for model inputs and outputs.
- Prepare and deliver detailed IFRS 9 reports, disclosures, and audit documentation.
- Conduct impact assessments of any changes in business activities or credit risk parameters on ECL calculations.
- Provide technical training and guidance to internal stakeholders on IFRS 9 processes and interpretations.
- Monitor regulatory developments and ensure ongoing compliance with accounting and risk management standards.
- Support internal and external audits and regulatory reviews related to IFRS 9 reporting.
Experience / Skills Required- 3–5 years of experience working with IFRS 9 model development, validation, or implementation.
- Solid experience in financial services, banking, or credit risk management environments.
- Experience in preparing financial reports in compliance with IFRS standards.
- Advanced Excel skills
Qualification Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Actuarial Science, Risk Management, or related field
- BCom Honours or equivalent postgraduate qualification would be advantageous.
- Professional certifications such as CA(SA), CIMA, ACCA, CFA, FRM would be advantageous.
