Job summary

Farm Manager SA in Western Cape, Yzerfontein is seeking an experienced hydroponic farm manager responsible for seeding, fertigation, and NFT-based production. You will lead a 25+ person team to ensure high yields and crop quality across herbs, greens, and edible flowers.

Responsibilities include managing seeding and germination, crop monitoring, irrigation systems, pest management, and collaboration with the production team to hit targets.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3-5 years' experience in hydroponic farming, horticulture, nursery management, or intensive crop production.
• Must have a passion for farming
• Must be hands-on, self-starter and a do-er
• Ability to speak Xhosa

Responsibilities

• Seeding & Germination: Manage seeding and germination through transplanting young seedlings to maximise final yield.
• Fertigation & Crop Monitoring: Monitor crop performance to optimise yield, quality and consistency across herbs, leafy greens, microgreens and edible flowers.
• Hydroponic Production: Grow crops using coco coir and NFT systems, maintaining optimal growing conditions throughout production.
• Water & Irrigation Systems: Operate and monitor computerised, cloud-based water filtration and irrigation systems.
• Irrigation Maintenance: Maintain irrigation components ensuring accurate and reliable water delivery.
• Pest Management: Monitor crops for pests and implement effective pest-control measures.
• Teamwork & Production: Work within a 25+ person team to reach production targets and quality standards.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

Seeding & Germination

• Manage the complete process from seeding and germination through to transplanting young seedlings, ensuring every seed has the best possible opportunity to contribute to maximum final yield.

Fertigation & Crop Monitoring

• Manage fertigation and closely monitor crop performance to optimise yield, quality and consistency across a range ofherbs, leafy greens, microgreens and edible flowers.

Hydroponic Production

• Grow crops usingcoco coir and Nutrient Film Technique (NFT)systems, maintaining optimal growing conditions throughout the production cycle.

Water & Irrigation Systems:

• Operate and monitorcomputerised, cloud-based water filtration and irrigation systems.

Irrigation Maintenance

• Maintain every component of the irrigation system to ensure consistent water and nutrient delivery. This includes ensuring thatevery emitter across 54 km of drip tapedelivers the required volume accurately and reliably.

Pest Management

• Monitor crops for pests and implement effective pest-control measures to maintain healthy growing conditions and protect yield.

Teamwork & Production

• Work collaboratively within a25+ person teamto achieve production targets, quality standards and desired outcomes.
