Placements24 seeks a Hydro Power Plant Manager for a major hydroelectric facility near Rustenburg, North West, South Africa. The role leads daily operations, safety, and performance to maximize generation and reliability.

On-site leadership of engineers and technicians is required, with budget oversight and asset maintenance responsibility while ensuring regulatory compliance and continuous improvement in a critical energy infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 10 years in power plant operations, with at least 5 years in a managerial role in hydroelectric sector.
• In-depth knowledge of hydroelectric power generation principles, equipment and control systems.
• Proven experience in managing large operational budgets and capital projects.
• Strong leadership, team management and decision-making skills.
• Excellent understanding of safety management systems and environmental regulations.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) or Professional Technologist (Pr. Tech Eng) registration is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of daily power plant operations, including generation, maintenance, and safety.
• Develop and implement operational strategies to maximize plant efficiency and output.
• Oversee the maintenance and repair of turbines, generators, dams, and associated infrastructure.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Lead, train, and motivate a team of engineers, technicians, and staff.
• Manage the plant's budget, including operational expenses and capex planning.
• Develop and execute long-term maintenance and upgrade plans for plant assets.
• Monitor plant performance data and implement improvements for reliability and efficiency.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, local communities, and stakeholders.
• Oversee emergency response planning and execution for potential incidents.
