Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a creative and analytical Chemical Engineer specializing in Research & Development to join our Upington team. This hybrid role blends hands-on laboratory work with remote administrative tasks, focusing on developing and scaling new chemical products and processes.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to conduct experiments, evaluate feasibility, and accelerate pilot-scale success while contributing to process design and safety assessments.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in chemical R&D or process development.
• Proven laboratory skills and experience with experimental design and execution.
• Familiarity with process simulation and data analysis tools.
• Strong understanding of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and kinetics.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory experiments to explore new synthesis routes and optimize existing processes.
• Evaluate feasibility and scalability of new chemical processes and technologies.
• Design and execute pilot-scale trials, collecting and analyzing data to inform process design.
• Develop and document experimental procedures, technical reports, and safety assessments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D chemists, process engineers, and product development specialists.
• Stay abreast of latest advancements in chemical engineering and related fields.
